Bumblebee is the first live action Transformers movie I’ve actually sat through. That’s probably because this is the first one that actually feels like it was made about the toys I remember from my childhood. The story is secondary, and full of plot holes and logic gaps. The fun I got out of this derived from a strong sense of nostalgia. I was the perfect age to be into original transformers toys, and the cartoon tv show that went along with it. Bumblebee managed to hit enough easter eggs to keep me feeling ten years old for two hours. The cgi on the robots looks decent, but then becomes glaringly bad when they interact with the human characters, which was surprising considering it’s $135 million budget. It was fun as a one time watch for kids born in the eighties, but that’s about all.
