GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is probably about forty minutes too long. It seems to take itself a bit too seriously, and a lot of the time forgets to have fun. This is a big budget remake of fun, cheesy low budget, giant monster films. I just want to see Kaijus fighting, cities being destroyed, and humans fleeing for their lives. The human character stories are far to prevalent here, and it just takes screen time away from what I’m here to see: big dumb monster fun! At the end of the day I know I’ll still pay for a ticket to see GODZILLA VS KONGĀ two years from now, so I guess the studio still wins. So be it. If you like these films, then by all means go to a theater and see it big and loud. If not, give it a skip.
